Sickness

Alright, starting off with an older track. A friend introduced me to Lorde last weekend so I had to check it out, he was right, kind of like Lana Del Rey. She probably resents that comparison. Anyways, so far my favorite remix of her track Swingin’ Party is by Terace. Second up is the Oxford remix of Portland‘s Deezy Daisy. Great retro feel there, which totally follows over to my next chosen track, Hey Champ‘s On Holiday. I think I have a really specific taste in music… like angelic female vocalist with a good bass beat and retro sound…

Hits Day

Well, seems the music might be getting better this year? First time in a while I took a look around on Hype Machine and actually liked some of the stuff being posted, and the lists weren’t being flooded by dubstep. You know I went to a party recently and everyone born after 1990 wanted dubstep, I was deeply saddened because dubstep is so prominent now and I’m old… Anyways, first time in a while, I’m happy to post some hits from this week. Starting off with the Calvin Harris remix if his own song Let’s Go. The original remix before I borrowed it said featuring Ne-Yo, it’s kind of funny because I felt like this track was everything from the original minus Ne-Yo… and my electronic music self likes it more. Yeah, I took out the “featuring” part. The Hey Champ remix of Housse De Racket Chateau, absolutely loving this one. More of this please music world. And lastly as I promised, a SebastiAn remix of The Shoes Time To Dance. Surprisingly not a lot of remixes for this track, and it’s been at least a year. That’s unfortunate.

Some Things I Missed

Alright, so throughout the year of 2009, I missed some vital tracks. And I’ll admit that some of these tracks, I actually fully listened to and completely brushed off. Not to mention that I failed to submit to The Hype Machine 2009 Zeitgeist, although that was optionally because I could’ve never compiled a proper Top 10 list for albums anyways. Do you know how hard it was last year for me to put one together? So these are three big tracks I missed. I actually heard this track at a club after New Years, and it was so familiar but I could place it. It’s cause I never posted it! The A-Trak remix of Yeah Yeah Yeahs Heads Will Roll. The track has some amazing parts in it, but there were some parts which were slightly repetitive which I can see why it might’ve been a tiny bit off-putting the first time around. But I can’t figure out, with an intro like that how I could’ve not posted it. Secondly, the Hey Champ remix of the Priors. Posted a couple Hey Champ remixes this year, always great stuff coming from them. Lastly, the Diplo remix of Feist‘s I Feel It All which I think I missed altogether. Don’t even really recognize it, in my defense it was released in late 2008, so it passed through two of my lists.

Priors – What You Need (Hey Champ Remix)

Feist – I Feel It All (Diplo Remix)

Alright, looks like my cosmic demands have been answered by something out there and within days I was delivered great music to work with. And what says “I got what I asked for” and “Merry Christmas” more than Dan Aykroyd eating hairy Salmon. Classic Shit!
First Hey Champ sent me a link to a free download of their WHOLE mixtape. Right now I’m listening to their remix of French Horn Rebellion – Beaches & Friends. It’s just delicious! Also I will give these tracks heavy rotation in my gigs tonight and on Sunday. Let me tell you something…these cats have got it goin on BIG, so cop this mixtape! Really great production and SICKSICKSICKSICK remixing. 2010 will be really good to them! Mark my words!!!
Next up, I’m giving you sexy folks some good ol’ Le Castle Vania. His newest release “Nobody Gets Out Alive” is f*ckin KILLER!!! This track will make clubs look like a goddamn firestorm this winter. Watch out for scandalous behaviour and/or an obscene amount cleavage when playing this track, check it on Beatport….enjoy, beautiful peoples!

Slump Averted

I’ve been rather disappointed with the music coming out lately. It’s almost like a musical slump, just not satisfied. This is partially a week-end update as I missed that post last week and also just some stuff that was mailed to me. First is Le Matos remix of We Have Band, I really can’t get enough of that sound Le Matos uses. Last remix he made with Coeur de Pirate had a similar sound, and I totally mean that in the best way possible. Lovin’ it. Second off is the Hey Champ remix of Passion Pit, interesting combo there, very groovy … retro? Almost more out of the 70’s sounds catalog than anything. And lastly, the Cut Copy remix of The Juan Maclean‘s Happy House, which for the longest time I thought he was saying “lunch meat into space” and thought it was kind of funny. Launch me into space just doesn’t have the same ring. Great ending to the track.
